Government Crackdown on Solar Safety
Leading solar power company SolarSwitch has welcomed the Federal
Government’s moves to increase industry regulation and clamp down on
rogue installers.
Minister for Climate Change, Energy Efficiency and Water, Senator Penny
Wong, yesterday announced the immediate introduction of tougher safety
and compliance requirements for solar panel installers.
The new regulations under the Renewable Energy Target scheme include:
-
To be eligible for the Renewable Energy Certificates (RECs) rebate
installations must comply with state and territory regulations for
siting panels and building codes, including panel mountings and
connections
-
Installers must be both Clean Energy Council accredited and licensed
electricians to install grid connect systems
-
Requiring solar panel installers to retain documentation of how they
have met the requirements
If these requirements are not met, installers will face fines,
injunctions; and will not be able to create RECs or may even face
criminal charges.
“SolarSwitch takes safety very seriously and prides itself on the
quality of its installations. This is an electrical installation on
your most precious asset, your home or business, and needs to be treated
with the utmost care and professionalism” said Adam Tesoriero, Director
of SolarSwitch.
SolarSwitch use Clean Energy Council accredited, licensed and insured
electricians for every installation and their installers offer an
industry leading 7 year workmanship warranty. SolarSwitch only offer
panels and inverters from reputable manufacturers who have the quality
controls, experience and heritage to back-up the 25 year manufacturer’s
output warranty on the panels. These panels include Australian made and
owned SilexSolar panels and the most efficient panel in the world, the
300W SunPower. The warranty on all panels offered by SolarSwitch is
held here in Australia.
“We hope these new regulations will help to encourage and enforce best
practice in the solar industry in Australia and reduce the number of
cheap, sub-standard installations” said Mr Tesoriero.
SolarSwitch has successfully installed over 2500 solar power systems
across NSW, SE QLD and the ACT.
