Solar Still Pays for Pensioners
Income from solar electricity may not affect social security benefits
like the pension as dramatically as first thought. The Federal
Government has ruled that solar income received as credits on an
electricity bill will not be assessable when determining the level of
benefits someone receives. Solar income is still counted if it’s
received via direct deposit or cheque however a person would have to
install a very large solar electricity system for this to have an impact
on benefits.
“Someone installing a basic 1.5kW home solar electricity system would
make around $55 per fortnight which on its own would not affect benefits
like the pension at all but would however cover the electricity bill
for the average homeowner” said Adam Tesoriero Director of SolarSwitch.
